About this opportunity:

City as Living Laboratory (CALL) is seeking artists to engage and work with the Corona, Queens community to create socially engaged art projects as a component of the Water // Ways Cloudburst Initiative. This is a milestone based paid opportunity, ultimately leading to a final public project. The proposed start period is in early Summer 2026, and would extend throughout Summer 2027. CALL values long term engagement that moves at the speed of trust, and is open to flexibility regarding the timeline of the project. This project has a preliminary budget for artist and production fees up to $5,000.

Launching May 1, 2026, ATLT will open submissions for Take One Action, a public art campaign and virtual exhibition inviting artists to share artwork and propose a concrete action that everyday people can take to help save democracy. The initiative responds to urgent civic and environmental concerns, encouraging artists to translate complex issues into accessible, actionable steps for public engagement.

Two artists will be selected from the open call to create wheat-pasted posters that will be on view in Lower Manhattan from September to October 2026. Broader submissions will be permanently featured on the ATLT website, www.artatatimelikethis.com. Participating artists chosen for the public installation will receive a $1,000 honorarium.
