Rogue Artists Ensemble is a unique American theatre ensemble that is focused on design. Our original plays use an arsenal of international storytelling techniques which include puppets, masks, theatrical magic, projection, sophisticated technology, audio sampling, dance and more to create an unforgettable and totally different kind of experience for young and old alike. Our goal by using this varied approach is to attract a new generation of theatergoer who has come to expect more in this tech savvy world.
We have been producing critically and financially successful works in Los Angeles since 2005, with RAE producing top-notch theater in Los Angeles while growing its operating budget every year. Two of our most recent Rogue productions, Gogol Project and Mr. Punch, received incredible audience and critical response and both were selected as a Critic’s Choice by the Los Angeles Times. Our work, HYPERBOLE: origins, was nominated for four awards by LA Weekly; including Production of the Year. And our most recent show, D is for Dog was nominated for a LA Weekly award for Comedy Ensemble. Rogue Artists Ensemble’s continued success demonstrates an ability to follow through with a plan of great scope and complexity.
The Rogues have a strong commitment to community outreach and education led by our all-ages shows, The Story of Frog Belly Rat Bone and Zen Shorts. These shows have toured throughout California at small community events and schools, in addition to playing larger venues such as The Geffen Playhouse, Segerstrom Performing Arts Center, Rio Hondo College and others. In 2011, we were invited to be in residency for three weeks at the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta. We have conducted several residencies at the University of California, Irvine with the students from the Claire Trevor School of the Arts and at Jordan High School in Long Beach. All this demonstrates our commitment to engaging communities and to inspiring the artist within untapped youth.
