The City of West Hollywood is seeking an experienced and self-motivated individual to serve as the City's Public Art Coordinator. Under the direction of the City's Arts Administrator, this position will perform a full range of professional and technical duties supporting the City's public art programs: Urban Art (private development projects under City ordinance), Civic Art (City development projects) and Art on the Outside (temporary projects).
Within its 1.9 square mile footprint, the City of West Hollywood has more than 60 art works on private developments (with several more at various stages of development), more than 15 civic art works (with two more currently in development), and at any one time has 5 to 8 temporary projects in the City's parks and road medians, which may give the City bragging rights to having more public art per square mile than most any other municipality. West Hollywood is a progressive and art supportive city with an annual budget for both temporary public art projects and ongoing art maintenance and conservation.
The Public Art Coordinator will utilize skills to perform complex technical and programmatic functions related to the City's full range of public art projects including: oversight and implementation of policies, guidelines and requirements; coordinating art and artist selection processes; contracting and budgeting for City sponsored projects; coordinating installation and de-installation activities; monitoring ongoing conservation and maintenance work of public art throughout the City (public and private); drafting staff reports; and providing guidance and professional advice on public art related matters to developers, City boards and commissions, elected officials, and other staff and community members.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and motivated professional who wants challenging work in a fast paced and supportive environment to join a creative team of talented individuals who are deeply committed to the community they serve.
