Background: Currently located in Hollywood, California, LACE was
founded in 1978 by a group of thirteen artists, primarily from
the Chicano/Latino community and the Otis Art Institute. Steeped
in principles of grassroots community organizing and social
change, LACE has actively provided a platform for contemporary
arts dialogue. Advancing several generations of emerging,
under-recognized artists and experimental art forms, we have
presented over 5,000 artists, 3,000 exhibitions, programs and
produced numerous publications.
Responsibilities: The Executive Director (ED) serves as LACE's
chief operating officer and visionary, working with and reporting
to the Board of Directors. The ED administers and directs all
LACE programs, operations and policies and supervises the LACE
professional staff, presently consisting of the Associate
Director-Curator and a Program Coordinator. The ED is the public
face and spokesperson for the organization.
Experience/Qualifications
§ College graduate: BA/BS, MFA/MBA or commensurate experience
demonstrating substantial understanding of the Los Angeles,
national and international contemporary art landscapes and
practices.
§ Minimum five years direct management experience with an
arts-related nonprofit organization.
Prior experience as President or Executive Director with
curatorial skills preferred. Strong preference for a local
candidate.
§ Established record as a successful fundraiser, ability to
source and complete grants, cultivate donors, solicit
sponsorships and execute fundraising events. Capital campaign
experience a plus.
§ Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all
sectors of the public, artists, elected officials, collectors and
key stakeholders; past success working with a board of directors
and ability to cultivate current and new board relationships.
§ Strong written and verbal communication skills, with
exceptional interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills,
an optimistic disposition with a supportive and inclusive
management style. Skilled team builder; encourages initiative and
risk-taking.
§ Exceptional planning, organizational and analytical skills;
demonstrated ability to conduct both short- and long-term
prioritization for the organization. Can internally and
externally report the financial status of the organization and
has knowledge of basic accounting protocols, the budgeting
process and ability to review finances with the Treasurer and the
Board ensuring LACE's sustainability and financial health.
Salary: Commensurate with experience
