An affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution and AAM accredited, the
Japanese American National Museum (www.janm.org) is recognized as one of
the nation’s premier cultural museums. In 2010 the Japanese American
National Museum received America’s highest honor for museums, the federal
IMLS National Medal. The National Museum is located adjacent to the Metro
Gold Line in the Little Tokyo/Arts district in downtown Los Angeles, a
neighborhood that has experienced an exciting revitalization with diverse
new restaurants, shops, luxury apartments, and nightlife.
The mission of the Japanese American National Museum, home of the National
Center for the Preservation of Democracy, “is to promote understanding and
appreciation of America’s ethnic and cultural diversity by sharing the
Japanese American experience. Based in the historic Little Tokyo
neighborhood, it has a nation-wide focus and international base of support.
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and support service role to
facilities events, rentals and programs, this position provides general
audio/visual technical and logistical support for on- and off-site events
organized by the National Museum.
Responsibilities include: Acts as technical consultant, while also
monitoring on-site contractors doing AV repairs and/or planned maintenance.
Provides professional customer service to facilities rental clients,
program guests and all staff/volunteers involved with event functions and
meetings. Technical planning, scheduling, equipment rental arrangements,
engineering of video, architectural and theatrical lighting, and sound
systems in coordination with programs and rental staff, and in consultation
with internal and external clients. Act as production stage manager for
high-profile and/or complex events. Must be able to work on weekends,
National Museum holidays and beyond normal business hours as required by
clients. High School Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and
experience. At least two years of related experience in a professional
audio/visual technical setting. PT on-call, up to 20 hrs/wk. Visit our
