Paid Summer Opportunities__________________________________________________________

1) POSITION DESCRIPTION: SUMMER MEDIA ASSISTANT

Working under the Art Mentoring Program Manager, the Media Assistant is
responsible for general media and technical support across the
organization, including the following, specific duties and responsibilities:

1. Technical Support
Creating a by-class equipment log for equipment hand-out/management
Assuring all equipment is in working order
Software updates
Charging cameras, computers, cleaning as necessary
Receiving and logging all equipment and putting away
Troubleshooting
Friday equipment check (everything working, peripherals working, etc.)
Additional support to Lead Filmmaker and Photographer as needed.

2. Archive
Upload student work to the digital Archive, as well as for display on the
web at the end of every week
Maintain the book and video libraries, updating these resource lists on the
Server and Web, and supervising the loan and return of materials.

3. Maintenance of Labs
Maintain the digital labs at the Gallery, Vera Davis Center, and the mobile
(laptop) lab, including wiping drives.
Assure that the software external drive is kept updated.
Assure that video and camera equipment is well maintained and organized at
both the Gallery and the Vera Davis Center.
Maintain an inventory of darkroom and digital lab equipment, including
computers, cameras, audio equipment, etc.
Regularly inventory materials and supplies creating a restock order in a
timely manner to be submitted to the Art Mentoring Program Manager.

4. Classroom Support
Assure all classroom set-up at the beginning of morning and afternoon
sessions.
Assure all classes have daily supplies requested by teachers prior to the
start of classes.
Share clean-up of classrooms/Venice Arts with other assistants and interns
Assist with snack distribution
Assist youth and parents with class time transitions (before/after classes)
Additional support to Art Mentoring Program staff as needed
General Summer Camp Floater

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate is a student or graduate of a photography,
photojournalism, or multi–media program with experience working in analog
and digital. She or he must be extremely well–organized, detail–oriented,
and able to manage multiple priorities. She or he must demonstrate a high
level of expertise with cameras, computers, and software, particularly
image management software a must. Familiarity with FinalCut Pro, PhotoShop,
CS5 and Lightroom 3, iMovie, Garageband, iStop Motion a plus. She or he
must be comfortable with technology and be experienced with tech–based
problem–solving. Applicant must know the ins and outs of Mac OS X 10.5 or
higher but need only have a basic knowledge of website maintenance to
apply.

Must be committed to the education and development of youth; an
understanding of the needs of “at–risk”, low–income youth is a plus, as is
experience in a mentoring or summer camp program.

positions are only available to current Loyola or USC students approved for
Summer 2012 work-study funding. Position can be up to 40 hours per week for
up to 6 weeks between June and August. *

Working under the Art Mentoring Program Manager, the Art Mentoring Program
Assistant is responsible for general media and technical support across the
organization, including the following, specific duties and responsibilities:

1. Classroom Support

sessions.

2. Camp Director Support
Act as liaison between Camp Director and Camp Staff when needed
Keep a log of any issues that arise so Camp Director can make sure they are
followed up on
Assist Camp Director in making sure logistical plan is followed
Make phone calls as needed
Re-stocking materials as needed
Check in on classes to make sure attendance sheets are being filled out
General administrative support

3. Technical Support
Letting Camp Director know when equipment is malfunctioning
Occasional software updates
Charging batteries, and computer cleaning/wiping as necessary
Making sure the equipment closet is organized and locked
Support with troubleshooting
Occasional support to Lead Filmmaker and Photographer as needed.

4. Archive
Making sure students get their DVD at the end of each week
Blogging about Summer Camp on our website and testing out Student Galleries
Maintain the book and video libraries

Helping set up, clean, and break down the digital labs at the Gallery, Vera
Davis Center, and the mobile (laptop) lab
Assure that the external drives are kept in one place/put back at the end
of each day

interest in media arts (photography, filmmaking, multimedia), arts
education or a related field. She or he must be extremely well–organized,
detail–oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities. She or he must
demonstrate a high level of comfort with cameras, computers, and software,
and must be open to learning about technology if not already familiar.
Familiarity with FinalCut Pro, PhotoShop, CS5 and Lightroom 3, iMovie,
Garageband, iStop Motion and general technical experience a plus, but not
required. Applicant must know the ins and outs of Mac OS X 10.5 or higher
to apply.
