In the aftermath of the recent election, members of the arts community have been suffering from a “bubble-psychosis.” This sensation that our bubble has been punctured destroys our hopes that art can bring about change. Before we all give in to defeatism and apathy, before we all toss in the towel, Art at a Time Like This would like to use this moment to think about how we can conceive of art during this dark period.

It is time to engage in community building and creative action. It is time to think about our audiences and our impact. We are challenged to consider, discuss, and argue at length about how to reactivate art and recharge our batteries.

We at Art At A Time Like This are calling on our community to help us revisit our inauguration exhibition, ‘How Can We Think Of Art At A Time Like This?’, which was presented in 2020. The exhibition featured 90 artists responding to events and crises within their communities, reaching an audience of over 250,000 viewers worldwide.

How can you, our friends, collaborators, and community of artists and arts professionals, answer this question nearly five years later?

We are opening our platform– www.artatatimelikethis.com –in the same way we did during our inception to present artists' responses to this moment; statements, jpegs, videos—all can be presented on our site. We hope that new ideas will emerge that can keep us all going during the next few years. Together, we can support each other in finding ways to grow and develop rather than merely resigning to despair.

Send your responses to info@artatatimelikethis.com. Spread the word to all your creative friends. Let us discover together what the next move might be.

Much love,

Barbara & Anne
