Artists, Community and Teaching (ACT) Program
Position Description:
Part Time Lecturer needed to develop and teach a new ACT Special Topics junior/senior level studio course in Art Therapy for Fall 2010 (Aug. 30 – Dec. 18, exact class time TBD).
ACTS300 Special Topics: Art Therapy (2 credits)
This studio course will give students an introduction to visual and performing art techniques used in therapeutic art programs. History and theories of art and performance therapy will be covered through demonstrations, readings, guest lectures and field trips. Students will also produce self-directed work with these techniques in mind as well as guide each other through therapeutic art practices.
Requirements:
Successful candidates will be experienced art therapists who are also practicing artists, able to teach both studio and theoretical aspects of therapeutic visual arts from both clinical and community based perspectives. Masters degree in related field is required. Additional experience with performance and music therapy is a plus. The course will be taught in Fall 2010, however the faculty will be responsible and paid a stipend for developing the course during the Summer, including generating a new syllabus and scheduling any field trips,

About ACT:
The Artists, Community and Teaching (ACT) Program allows eligible BFA students to major in one area and concentrate in either Teacher Credential Preparation or Community Arts Engagement. The Teacher Credential Preparation track prepares students who wish to pursue the California Single Subject in Art Teaching Credential needed to teach in CA K-12th grade public schools by satisfying the Subject Matter in Art requirements as mandated by the CA Commission on Teacher Credentialing. The Community Arts Engagement track prepares students who wish to work in art/design education and community based art/design practices in areas outside of K-12 public schools, such as museum education departments, community arts centers, correctional facilities, therapeutic arts programs, public art, and design firms that focus on educational materials and the use of design as an agent for positive social change.
