(from zz baggins not quite so personal and irregular diary)...
unlikely considerations
So as you know, I have given notice as Art Director of Unlikely 2.0 in order to concentrate more on my book ventures. I anticipated the last mid-month art issue (linked above) to be the final one that I would orchestrate, however, Jonathan has asked me to stay on another month, thereby giving him more time to find a replacement. Of course, I have agreed to do so (how could I not) ... Jonathan has been very good to me! And while I am partly sad to be giving it up, I am excited about the extra time it will allow me to work on my stuff. An additional benefit is that I will be able to submit my own art there again the following month and thereafter... no conflict of interests anymore.
Locally in LA, as we all know, there's no off-off bdwy scene for new theater work-outs to occur. There's now an ongoing venue in the heart of Hollywood offering space to present unknown musical theatre, showcase ops for 10- to 45-minute pieces. These can be excerpts, a 1st reading-singing, the like; can allow for audience feedback, to test how well an untried and previously unstaged musical work works.
The location is an open, fairly large jazz room, a bar and grill with a grand piano and small riser stage and sound system. The music doesn't have to be jazz, but it has to be original and interesting musically. The room easily seats 75 with tables and booths, and has held over 100. Singers regularly gather there to perform.
G. F. Mlely performs an instrumental version of his song "Never Quite Say," from his musical theatre work-in-progress, "Life Death & Jazz." This version is available on Mlely's cd release, "Re-Entry" (JzC101), on the JazCraft label, on sale digitally and on hard copy at various outlets, including CDBaby, Amazon, JazCraft.net, etc.
Hear a vocal ensemble version of "Never Quite Say" on http://www.jazcraft.net/LifeDeath&Jazz.html - along with numerous other demo songs from that musical.
The video was produced by JazCraft at Olelo Television of Hawaii, from the series "Jazz Piano with G. F. Mlely."

The Politics in the Room is an exhibition in the form of eight video episodes distributed and archived online. It is the first public project of the LUX Associate Artists Programme and is loosely structured around a comment by the American artist Gregg Bordowitz that questioned not what constitutes politics in general but rather what are the politics of the room you are in.

All art is magical; all magic is art.
Yet they are not the same, and part
