Ventura ArtWalk Featured Artist Competition

Call for artists - The City of Ventura Cultural Affairs Division invites Southern California artists to compete for selection as an ArtWalk "featured artist." Ventura's bi-annual ArtWalks attract up to ten thousand visitors to its Downtown Cultural District during this weekend of fine art display and sales in business "galleries for a day," live music and performances, children's activities, and studio and gallery openings. Each ArtWalk showcases a different established or emerging "featured artist" with a weekend exhibition, and focuses on one of the artist's images used in such promotional materials as newspaper ads, posters, postcards and programs produced by the city.

Material Submission Deadline: March 2, 2009 at 5:00 P.M. All materials may be hand delivered or mailed but must arrive by the deadline.

Eligibility: Open to all artists in Southern California including San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Kern, Ventura, Los Angeles, San Bernadino, Orange, Riverside, San Diego and Imperial Counties. ALL visual art media accepted.

What to Submit:
1. 10 color jpegs images embedded in a PowerPoint Slideshow
Images submitted must be available to exhibit during the weekend of the ArtWalk and the artist must have all rights to reproduce the image. Each image must be labeled in the PowerPoint with the title, date, type of media and dimdimensionsensions of the work.
2. Current resume (maximum of 3 pages) that includes your name, address, phone and email (if applicable).

Criteria of Work: These components will be considered in the selection process.
* Appropriateness to a public venue
* Artistic quality of work
* Reproducibility
* General public appeal

Schedule/Process: The panel will include artists, downtown merchants and community members. They will review applicant's materials the first week in March and choose one artist for each of the following ArtWalks: Harvest 2009 and Spring 2010. Dates TBA. A total of two artists will be selected, one for each ArtWalk. Applicants will be notified via email of the panel's decisions. Application materials will not be returned.
