CALL FOR ARTISTS
Group Health Facilities
States of Washington and Idaho

The Project:

The Arts Program Oversight Committee at Group Health Cooperative in the States of Washington and Idaho is seeking submissions for a variety of artwork to create a catalog of approved art that can be considered for future purchase for their many facilities throughout the Washington and the Idaho area, and immediate purchase for their new medical offices in Redmond and remodeled areas at their Central Facility in Seattle, Washington.

We are looking for artwork in a wide variety of mediums including two-dimensional and three-dimensional artwork, original art, limited edition prints, giclee prints, mixed media art, glass, mosaics, wall sculpture, fabric art, collages, and photography. Existing and commissioned artwork will be considered. Art will be placed in the elevator lobbies, corridors, waiting and consultation rooms, examination rooms, and behind the nurses' reception areas. Imagery that represents elements of nature or water and landscapes will be considered. Inventive, yet sensitive works are encouraged. Artwork that either evokes wellness or has been created as part of the artist's wellness program is encouraged to be submitted.
Arts Mission Statement
To use evidence-based design principles to provide arts programs that enhance messages of good health and healing, reinforce our brand and connect with the many communities that we serve.

The artwork is being funded by Group Health as part of its commitment to creating a healing environment for patients, visitors and staff.

ART FOR IMMEDIATE PURCHASE — Art Location Descriptions
We are interested in individual pieces that support the guiding principles and evoke messages of hope and healing for the facilities at Redmond and Central and as an option for future projects.

Waiting rooms, consultation rooms and nurses' reception areas
$ 500.00 each (unframed)
There is currently a need for a variety of pieces to place in waiting rooms, consultation rooms or at the nurses' reception areas. These will be areas of potential stress for families as they wait and rest. We are considering large framed pieces per area no less than 36" wide by 24" high, image size or a series of work that provides a positive distraction for patients.

Corridor Art/Conference Center areas
$ 400.00 each (unframed)
There is currently a need for a variety of pieces to place in corridors throughout the building. This imagery is designed to help the patient and visitor journey and serve as a source of wayfinding. We are considering large framed pieces per area no less than 30" wide by 20" high or 24" high by 20" wide, image size or a series of work that provides a positive distraction for patients.

Patient/Exam and Treatment Rooms

There are currently eighteen (18) exam/treatment rooms in the Redmond Facility. Original print works on paper, photography, and macro art or representational works approximately 24" wide by 20" high image size or larger (vertical or horizontal) in size will be considered for this space. We will consider one piece per room and will look for art that lends a sense of calm and peace to patients and their visitors. Imagery should have a balance of land, water and sky, when possible lead the viewer to be able to feel as if they could be standing in the picture.

ART FOR FUTURE PURCHASE
It is the desire of Group Health to use this call for artists to create an approved list of artists that can be considered for future purchases and commissions. We are interested in identifying the talent in the community whose style and imagery would best fulfill our goals of enhancing messages of good health, healing and support the many communities we serve. For catalog art please include the name of piece, size of image, price, date created and media. Categories to be considered (in all medias) are:

Please closely observe the requirements and guidelines for the application. Artists who wish to be considered for visual art categories must submit the following materials (collated and in this order):

1. Cover Letter
Indicate on a cover sheet which areas you are submitting for and which submitted images refer to that submission area. You may submit for multiple areas and you may add a brief artistic statement or your thoughts on arts in healthcare if you like (it is not required).

2. Professional Resume
Submit a current professional resume (five pages maximum) including information regarding past public art commissions, design team experience, exhibitions, awards, grants, and education. Handwritten materials will not be reviewed.

3. Professional References

1. Submit the names, addresses, current telephone numbers and/or email addresses for three authorities on your past work and qualifications. Do not send letters of recommendation. Handwritten materials will not be reviewed.

2. Feature submissions, if a commission is presented, should include professional references.

3. PLEASE ENSURE THAT THE CONTACT INFORMATION FOR YOUR REFERENCES IS CURRENT, AS WE FREQUENTLY CONTACT REFERENCES. ANY INACCURATE INFORMATION MAY DELAY THE SELECTION PROCESS.
4. Digital Images

1. Submit digital images of past work with annotations (CDs or DVDs). Only submit images with maximum dimensions of 1024 x 768 pixels and minimum dimensions of 720 x 480 pixels. 35mm slides, prints or photographs of artwork will not be accepted.
