Curator of Contemporary Art
at the Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart (Museum of Contemporary Art) – Berlin

The Nationalgalerie of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin holds one of the world's largest and most important public collections of contemporary art at the Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart - Berlin.

Areas of responsibility:

–Scholarly and strategic development, supervision and coordination of the exhibition program of Hamburger Bahnhof, in coordination with the Head of the museum and the Director of the Nationalgalerie
–Development and implementation of exhibitions
–Development of strategies and concepts for the communication and public program of Hamburger Bahnhof
–Overseeing time and budget plans for the respective exhibition programs and responsible monitoring of their implementation and compliance
–Overall responsibility for content regarding visitor information
–Cultivating and maintaining national and international co-operations
–Contribution to the development of the collection’s focus on contemporary global art at the Hamburger Bahnhof, including the development of a cross-collection concept for the acquisition of contemporary global art within the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin
–Development of ideas and feasible concepts to expand the collection of Hamburger Bahnhof in terms of contemporary global art
–Observation and research of global contemporary art trends and market developments in regard to the program of the Hamburger Bahnhof
–Expert and advisor for contemporary global art for the museum and within the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin
–Curatorial responsibility for the collections at Hamburger Bahnhof
–Professional and administrative supervision of the acquisitions of Hamburger Bahnhof

Requirements:

–Academic degree (Master, Magister, diploma) in art history or cultural studies with the focus on art of the second half of the 20th century and the present
–Comprehensive and versatile specialised knowledge of post-1945 art, especially contemporary global art
–Several years experience in museum and exhibition field, also internationally and in collaboration with a team
–Established international and national network in the contemporary art scene
–Expertise in database management and handling
–Fluent proficiency in German and English and spoken and written knowledge of at least one other foreign language

Asset:
PhD in the field of art history or cultural studies with a focus on art after 1945.
