JOB DESCRIPTION:
MUSEUM EDUCATOR
The Museum seeks well-spoken and outgoing individuals with excellent customer service skills, who enjoy working with all ages, to join its Education department. Museum Educators work between 8-20 hours per week from Wednesday to Sunday, mornings and afternoons. Hours are flexible, and may vary from week to week. This is a non-exempt position. Candidates will be contacted on a rolling basis. Preference will be given to applications submitted before September 10, 2017.
Museum Educators report to the Associate Director of Education.
Responsibilities:
Deliver education programs including guided tours, workshops, and screening programs to student groups of all needs and abilities, grades 2 through college, as well as adults and senior citizens.
Provide excellent customer service and ensure a positive museum-going experience for all visitors.
Facilitate weekend/holiday family workshops and Moving Image Studio (a drop-in workshop) activities.
Facilitate birthday parties for children.
Attend regular meetings of the Education department.
Additional responsibilities may include assisting Museum instructors with after-school courses, both on-site and off-site; assisting at special events; and serving as a Museum representative for various off-site activities as needed.
Other administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate work or degree in education, film, media studies, history, or related field.
Previous experience working with young people strongly preferred.
Previous experience with object-based and inquiry-based learning is a plus.
A friendly, courteous, and visitor-focused demeanor.
Working knowledge of film/media history and/or film/video production, animation, or digital media production a plus.
Available a minimum of two weekday mornings (Wednesday, Thursday and/or Friday) per week.

MANAGER OF EDUCATION PROGRAMS
The Manager of Education Programs coordinates and provides intellectual and administrative support and oversight for the department’s informal learning programs including, but not limited to after-school and summer classes and courses, weekend workshops, and collaborative partnerships with outside organizations. The Manager of Education Programs also collaborates with the Deputy Director for Education & Community Engagement and the Education Programs Coordinator in the management of school group programs and development of new curriculum for community partnerships and exhibitions. This is a full-time exempt position. The Manager of Education Programs reports to the Deputy Director for Education & Community Engagement.
Responsibilities include:
The hiring, training, and weekly scheduling of part-time and contract educators, instructors, and other staff;
Program planning, management, administrative coordination, documentation, instructor support, and evaluation of the Museum’s after-school and other OST learning experiences
Coordinating partnerships and collaborations with outside organizations, such as schools, internship programs, neighborhood organizations, and colleague institutions, including other members of the Hive NYC Learning Network.
Collaborating with other members of the Education department to develop ongoing programmatic strategy and to assist in the development and implementation of new education programs that support that strategy, including but not limited to specialized family workshops, classes, and camps, and gallery activities relating to permanent and special exhibitions;
Collaborating with Deputy Director for Education & Community Engagement and the Museum’s Development department to create and execute a fundraising strategy to support programmatic initiatives.
Planning and coordination of professional development for NYC teachers and school administrators;
Working with the Education Programs Coordinator to ensure smooth operation of school group;
Working with the Manger of Family Programs to support planning, management, assessment, and curriculum development for Summer Media Camps and other family programs as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate work or degree in education, film, media studies, history, or related field.
Previous experience working with young people in a museum and school setting as a lead educator; 5 or more years preferred.
Previous experience with designing and implementing curriculum for object-based and inquiry-based learning.
A friendly, courteous, and visitor-focused demeanor.
Working knowledge of film/media history and/or film/video production, animation, or digital media production.
Leadership experience in digital education and/or digital media production settings preferred.
Available to work weekends and some weekdays.
