Assistant/Associate Professor of Video and Film
Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution and member of the Five College Consortium, is accepting applications for a full-time assistant/associate professor of video and film. Rank is dependent upon experience and qualifications. The position will concentrate on the teaching of courses in alternative narrative with an approach that challenges conventional narrative production, and that emphasizes writing, directing and performance as imaginative and discursive sites for experimentation. We seek candidates who are actively engaged artists with demonstrated successful teaching at the undergraduate level in moving image production and theory with a focus on current transnational and cross-cultural practices. Practice, research and teaching may draw upon a broad range of experiences in video, film, sound, performance, photography, animation, experimental media and emerging technologies, as well as cultural studies, cinema studies and activism. We seek candidates with demonstrated expertise in analog and digital media and in a range of forms including fiction, non-fiction and hybrid genres.
Ability to communicate and work effectively within a culturally diverse and multidisciplinary campus community and within a program that includes photography, installation and performance studies is important. Qualified candidates must have an MFA (or its equivalent) and a significant exhibition record. The position involves teaching two courses each semester, as well as substantial student advising and participation in program and college governance.
