*Environmental Charter Middle School, Inglewood*, a small,
environmentally-themed charter school in Inglewood, is looking for an
inspired, creative teacher for our Handwork elective. The position entails
teaching art-making to 6th,7th, and 8th graders from Tuesday-Friday for a
total of 20 hours per week and attending meetings periodically on Mondays.
The teacher will collaborate with core humanities and math/science teachers
to plan curricula that adds dimension to core content.
This course supports our study of core academic standards (history,
science, language arts, and math). Sample activities might include
papyrus-making to support the study of Ancient Egypt, weaving to support
our Ancient Greece unit, perspective drawing from the Renaissance, or
drawing circles free hand and with homemade protractors to support a
geometry unit. Use of sustainable and recycled materials and teaching of
art history are also encouraged.
Instructor will need experience teaching upper elementary or middle school
students, the ability to manage a classroom of 25-30 students, and
knowledge of the practical arts.
