The Edmonton Arts Council Public Art Program, on the behalf of the City of Edmonton, is seeking an artist or artist team to integrate art at the Churchill Connector. There are two potential site locations for a public artwork both of which provide a significant and highly visible public art installation opportunity.

Drawing on contemporary themes such as connections, urbanity, and diversity, the artwork should speak to the rich cultural hub found in Edmonton's downtown core. Artists must identify one site location in their letter of intent.

Sir Winston Churchill Square
The Churchill Stop of the Valley Line is located at Sir Winston Churchill Square, the centre of the Arts District and home to many of Edmonton's outdoor festivals, activities, and gatherings. Churchill Square is one of Edmonton's vibrant cultural hubs - the back yard of City Hall and surrounded by the Winspear Centre for Music, Stanley A. Milner Library, Citadel Theatre, City Centre Mall, cafes, restaurants, and the Art Gallery of Alberta. The square is also in close proximity to the new Royal Alberta Museum, the new downtown Rogers Place Arena, and a future performing arts centre.

The City of Edmonton's Civic Precinct centres around Churchill Square and is seen as the contemporary and urban heart of the city with connections to the Edmonton Transit System, LRT, pedways, and sidewalks.

Churchill Connector
The interchange point between Edmonton's current high-floor LRT system and the new low-floor Valley Line will be at Sir Winston Churchill Square through the Churchill Connector. A new entrance to the existing underground Churchill Station will be built at the northwest corner of the 99 Street / 102 Avenue intersection (the southeast corner of Churchill Square). Pedestrians will enter the Churchill Connector through the vestibule, leading either to the pavilion with the stairway/escalators elevators connecting to the existing Churchill Station or through to Sir Winston Churchill Square.

The Churchill Connector is a vertical interchange. Passengers can disembark from the Valley Line and take stairs, escalators, or an
elevator down to the existing Churchill Station, where they can access the Metro Line (heading north to NAIT or south to Health Sciences) or the Capital Line (heading northeast to Clareview or south to Century Park.
