POSITION: Civic Art Program Coordinator
The Los Angeles County Arts Commission seeks a full time Civic Art Program Coordinator for its Civic Art Program, which works with leading and emerging public artists, County departments and communities to create permanent artwork, creative placemaking projects, public engagement activities, temporary art and event-based programming for new and renovated facilities throughout Los Angeles County.
LA County is the largest municipal jurisdiction in the United States serving a population of over 10 million people. The Civic Art program has 50 projects underway and has produced work for more than 94 County capital projects, including public libraries, parks, pool houses, community centers, sheriff stations, prisons and health centers. A selection of current commissioned artists includes Jamex and Einar de la Torre, Greenmeme, Sonia Romero and Kathy Taslitz. The program also serves interdepartmental workgroups to incorporate art and artists into County planning initiatives for community and environmental sustainability. Other initiatives underway include the creative placemaking project Antelope Valley Outpost in partnership with Otis College of Design, the Some Place Chronicles: Histories and Visions of the Unincorporated Areas in the Second District of LA County in partnership with the CalArts, the LA County Creative Graffiti Abatement Prototype Program, and an inventory of County-owned art.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Director of Civic Art and working as a member of a team, the Civic Art Program Coordinator plays a pivotal role in budgeting, fiscal tracking, operations and management of the Civic Art Program. Examples of Duties:
Fiscal (70%)
Oversee transfers, revenue, encumbrance and expenditure transactions Analyze financial status by collecting, inputting, monitoring and studying data and recommending actions Coordinate information requests and responses related to status of the revenue accounts Coordinate fiscal reporting for grants and conduct project financial audits at close out Coordinate with project managers and analysts to recommend cash flow systems for projects Process vendor payments Develop and improve upon tracking systems and reports Communicate with vendors and county departments regarding invoices Provide support for budget preparation Administrative (30%)
Assist in the coordination of civic art projects, including artist recruitment, selection process and project data management Coordinate meetings and civic art program calendaring Draft agendas, minutes and reports Prepare civic art contracts and track status Assist in research, evaluation, development and submittal of grants applications Conduct administrative studies of programs, projects and practices Create and update website information Coordinate project status and other reports Prepare and distribute educational materials Coordinate information requests from the public, media, artists and other public art programs Coordinate grant administration and reporting Coordinate staff support to Civic Art Committee of the Arts Commission Provide general administrative support to the Director of the Civic Art Program
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should have a minimum of four years experience in a responsible administrative role, preferably with a nonprofit organization or municipality, with at least one of these years working in an arts program in a support capacity. The successful candidate will have knowledge of, or interest in, public art and contemporary visual arts; strong finance and accounting background with experience in managing multiple budgets; proven top-notch organizational skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Windows 7, MS Word, PowerPoint, databases and Excel. A candidate with a BA or BS in Business, Finance, Accounting, visual arts, public administration or a related field is desirable. This is a 40 hour per week contract position.
COMPENSATION: The annual compensation is $51,000-63,000 based on experience.
