has a teaching opportunity for a
motivated, creative, qualified teaching artist to facilitate the
Film Arts Class. (Filmmaking and Video Production)

We are seeking a qualified teaching artist with professional
experience in the following area:
• Film Arts / Filmmaking and Video Production (Monday
& Wednesday)
Candidates must have a very strong interest in teaching and using
fun, innovative techniques
to explore the arts and education. The Institute for the Arts
at Greenway employs project-based teaching techniques to
introduce students to various aspects of the arts. Experience
working in urban public school systems, inner-city arts
organizations and/or community-serving organizations is a must.
The program facility is on the campus of Fairfax High School in
Los Angeles, CA. The Academy of Film Arts / Film Class meets
on Mondays and Wednesdays after school.
Bell Schedule with corresponding Teaching Artists Hours:
• Regular Bell Schedule - 3:00pm to 5:15pm
• Early Dismissal Bell Schedule (occasional) 1:30pm to
3:45pm
• Shortened Day Bell Schedule (rare) 2:00pm to 4:15pm
• Minimum Day Bell Schedule (rare) 12:20pm to 2:35pm
Responsibilities:
• Implement an arts education curriculum (Film/Video) that
reflects collaboration and meets the needs of participants
• Develop and document age & contextually appropriate
lesson plans, maintain attendance sheets, support program
evaluation and learning assessments, and attend all required
meetings and training sessions
• Provide hands-on instruction in a range of settings from
classroom to stage to participants of varying ages and
backgrounds including those with disabilities and English as a second language
• Deliver complete project-based lessons that include
facilitating discussions and hands-on instruction; Complete class projects by the deadline
• Coordinate and maintain equipment, materials and supplies
for classes
• Maintain a safe, clean learning environment
• Provide support to The Institute for the Arts at Greenway
/ Greenway Arts Alliance at school and community events
• Other responsibilities as needed
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree, MFA or related training preferred
• Minimum of 3 years experience teaching school-aged
children in a public school setting; Experience teaching film and
video production
• Demonstrate an ability to engage, challenge and interest
youth through the arts and education
• Able to create safe, supportive and creative
environments; Able to genuinely relate to public high school
students
• Passionate about teaching with a desire to experiment
with new instructional techniques
• Desire to work with diverse populations (i.e. age,
gender, class, sexual orientation, ethnicity, etc)
• Capable of performing in busy non-traditional classroom
settings and handle classroom management in a positive manner
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
with a proven ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, plan ahead, anticipate and articulate program needs, and work independently while keeping open communications and status
reports
• Ability to problem-solve, be flexible, imaginative and
innovative; Knowledgeable in all areas of film and video
production
• Able to fully commit to the teaching/work schedule
(August - June)
• Able to pass the LiveScan Background Check
Compensation:
$60 per class session. This is a part-time position.
