A Place Called Home is seeking a Dance Assistant
Reports to: Dance Coordinator
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Hours: Part-Time (10 hours per week)
Salary Range: $10.00 - $12.00 per hour (DOE)
A Place Called Home is a dynamic, non-profit youth center in
South Central Los Angeles. APCH provides educational programs,
counseling, mentoring, music, dance and art classes, and fitness
opportunities. As youth participate in our programs, they
discover interests and talents and develop a better sense of
themselves and their place in the world around them. Our goal is
to increase the likelihood that youth will stay in school, pursue
higher education, attain viable jobs, and become active citizens
capable of making positive change in the world in which they

SUMMARY
Responsible for assisting with administrative and instructional
aspects of the dance program under the supervision of the dance
coordinator:
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
1. Adhere to the highest ethical and professional
standards and values at all times
2. Open, clean, and monitor dressing rooms and offices
3. Prepare and maintain lobby for parents and visitors
4. Maintain cleanliness and safety in family room,
playground, hallways, and general areas
5. Enhance and enforce Dance policies and procedures in
conjunction with APCH policies and procedures
6. Follow-up with parents (call absent students, event
reminders, etc)
7. Track attendance (ensure rosters are up to date)
8. Prepare permission slips and recruit members for
participation in field trips and performances
9. Assist with administrative projects (filing,
permission slip collection and management, etc)
10. Issue dance clothing and shoes (as instructed)
11. Supervise members at all times (studying, checking
dressing rooms, hallways, free-time, etc)
12. Mentor through actions and behavior in observing dress
code, language, and team support
13. Seek to continually grow and develop as a professional
and team member
14. Run rehearsals for upcoming performances and trips.
15. Other duties may be assigned
Qualifications
To perform this important job successfully, the Dance Assistant
must be able to fulfill all of the elements of the Job
Description to the highest standard, and be able to work well
with colleagues in a high energy, collaborative environment with
open communications. A Place Called Home is a learning

Ability to work with Children and Teenagers
Education/Training
Degree: H.S. Diploma or equivalent
Experience: 2 years minimum experience working with youth in a
dance program
Physical and Mental Demands
* Able to work in chaotic and high noise level
environment typical of a youth center
* Walking, standing, aerobic fitness activities required
on daily basis
* Lift up to 25 pounds regularly
* Speech and hearing within normal ranges; speech clarity
sufficient for standard face to face and telephone
communications
