*GALLERY & PUBLIC PROGRAMS ASSISTANT*

Job Description

Venice Arts seeks a Gallery & Public Programs Assistant. Working under the
supervision of the Gallery & Public Programs Director, the Gallery & Public
Programs Assistant has primary responsibility for providing support for
Venice Arts’ Gallery & Public Programs for adults, including exhibitions,
screenings, and our new Community Story Lab, a two-year project of
media-arts participation that will engage low-income adults as
“participant-artists,” learning from, and collaborating with, professional
artists. Specifics roles and responsibilities of the Gallery & Public
Programs Assistant include:

*1. **Gallery & Public Programs Support*

- Assist the Gallery & Public Programs Director with marketing and
implementing our public programs, adult classes, and exhibitions,
including installation

- Conduct research in preparation for upcoming exhibitions,
screenings, and public programs

- Set-up, staff, and breakdown documentary film screenings, artist
talks, gallery exhibition openings, and other public programs

*2. **Community Story Lab Program Support*

· Implement outreach and conduct enrollment, including inputting data
into the database
(Filemaker Pro)

· Provide assistance with set-up, breakdown, and equipment management
for workshops provided through the Community Story Lab

· Capture documentation of Community Story Lab activities through
photography and video

*3. **Marketing & Outreach*

· Support the implementation of communications and marketing
strategies, including press releases, calendar listings, mailings,
e-blasts, web features, and social media

- Assure that all print materials, sign-in books, outreach flyers, and
related materials are stocked and available to the public

*4. **Media Management*

- Manage media produced through the Community Story Lab and provide
select works to Program & Media Coordinator for Venice Arts’ archive
- Maintain public programs and gallery exhibitions materials, including
capturing, editing, posting, and archiving photographs and video of events

*Qualifications: *The ideal candidate is a graduate of a photography,
photojournalism, film, or multi-media program, and demonstrates proficiency
with media-related equipment and software (Photoshop required, working
knowledge of InDesign, Lightroom, and Final Cut a plus). She or he has
demonstrated experience in art presentation, education, and/or community
arts engagement, is able to communicate with professionalism, and is
interested in working in a nonprofit arts environment. Must be
well-organized and detail-oriented, able to multi-task and manage multiple
deadlines successfully. Must possess excellent verbal and written
communication skills. Bilingual Spanish/English a plus. Must have
California Driver’s License with clean record for five years.

*Salary and Benefits:* This is a part-time position (20 hours per week),
and is paid at a rate of $18 per hour. Some evening and weekend hours
required during workshop cycles and during public programs.
