Hollywood Arts Council is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation with a mission to support, nurture and promote the arts of Hollywood. Since its founding in 1978, it has played a vital role in the life of the community contributing to its current renaissance.
Its primary programs and services include an annual Childrens Festival of the Arts; Project S.O.A.R. (Students Overcoming All Risks) afterschool art workshops conducted in area elementary schools; production of a free daily calendar of local arts events; annual awards luncheon recognizing significant community, artistic, and business contributions to the arts; and arts roundtables for local arts administrators and artists. The Council has an excellent track record and a long history advocating for the arts by working with five Hollywood area neighborhood councils, the Hollywood business community, elected officials, and government agencies/departments.
This position is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional to move the organization forward at this critical time in the organization's history. The Executive Director will oversee the organization's transition to staff management, strategic planning, fund development, marketing, and community relations. Initially, the main goal is the successful transition from an organization managed by a long-time volunteer president to an organization to one that is managed by the Executive Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Board Relations - Support all activities associated with the Board of Trustees, including recruitment, onboarding process, Board and Committee meetings, ongoing training and board-related activities. This is one of the most important parts of the ED's position, since the organization is heavily reliant on its board for oversight.
• Fundraising and Directing Resources - Support all fundraising and development efforts in conjunction with the Board of Trustees. In cooperation with the board, facilitate fundraising planning and implementation, including researching funding sources, and establishing strategies to approach funders.
- Supports the cultivation of individual donors.
- Write and submit grant proposals and seek corporate sponsorships.
- Supports annual and special fundraising events.
• Program Management – Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services that support the mission
* Communications and Marketing - Serve as point of contact with community and arts organizations and individuals, such as Hollywood's five neighborhood councils, elementary schools, City of Los Angeles, contributors, nonprofit arts providers, and other organizations interfacing with the Hollywood Arts Council.
* Financial Management
- Prepare and manage annual budget. Provide monthly updates to the board.
- Administer the funds of the organization and monitor compliance with organization's by-laws and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
* Background & Experience – Minimum 10 years of management experience in the non-profit sector and/or the arts required. Successful track record in resource development and developing an effective board of trustees is desired. Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills required. Creative problem solving and excellent written and verbal communication skills a must. Background and familiarity with the nuances of the community of Hollywood and its major industry a plus. Bachelor's degree preferred.
* Compensation - This position will average approximately 20 hours per week with the potential to grow into a full-time position. Flexible schedule with occasional meetings and events outside of regular business hours. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualification and experience; benefits are not provided at this time.
