program is seeking proposals from Teaching Artists who will facilitate
workshops for K–Grade 12 teacher professional development.

ABOUT Teaching Our World Through the Arts

Teaching Our World Through the Arts

is a professional development program that prepares K–Grade 12
teachers to integrate film, dance, visual arts,architecture, theater,
and music into core curriculum. The course is divided into four
strands,each strand connecting to different arts media and techniques.
Each strand consists of four full-day Saturdays of training with
different teaching artists each week.

TEACHING ARTIST

Teaching Our World Through The Arts is seeking Teaching Artists to lead
teacher professional development workshops grounded in arts-based
techniques, and designed to serve K-Grade 12 teachers across curriculum
areas. Workshops should focus on collaboration,communication, problem
solving and critical thinking skills that can be translated to student
populations.Teaching Artists will work closely with the Associate
Educator for Teacher Programs, who co-facilitates workshops and provides
support in lesson plan development, instruction, and supplies.

Key responsibilities of the Teaching Artist:

• Develop a syllabus and lesson plans for one 2 to 4-hour workshop
session

• Meet deadlines for submission of materials in preparation for the
workshop.

• Facilitate a 2 to 4 hour workshop session on a designated date.

QUALIFICATIONS

The qualified candidate will have professional experience relevant to
the selected strand, and at least two years previous teaching
experience(experience working with classroom teachers preferred). A
successful candidate will be organized and a good
communicator/collaborator; be flexible and able to adapt lesson plans
based on Skirball feedback; be able to communicate clearly and
passionately about their respective art form.

2013-2014 STRANDS
Strand One: Art and Architecture - Oct 12, 19, 26 and Nov 2, 2013
Proposal Deadline - Aug 30, 2013
We are seeking workshop proposals that will allow teachers to connect
their teaching to the world around them, and foster collaboration and
creativity among their students. This strand will take place in
conjunction with the Skirball exhibition Global Citizen: The
Architecture of Moshe Safdie, and will focus on design thinking,
architectural concepts, and visual art approaches to instruction.

Strand Two: Movement - Jan 25 and Feb 1, 8, 15, 2014 Proposal Deadline
- Nov 1, 2013
We are seeking multidisciplinary Teaching Artists to lead movement-based
workshops that will activate a range of curriculum subjects, and help
teachers discover how to get students moving while they learn.

Strand Three: Theater and Film - Mar 8, 15, 22, 29, 2014 Proposal
Deadline - Dec 15, 2013
This strand will focus on techniques for integrating media- and
theater-based activities into existing classroom content. We are seeking
Teaching Artists who specialize in facilitating film-making, acting,
editing, and directing workshops. These workshops will teach
participants the many ways film, video, and theater can help students
demonstrate learning, broaden understanding, and discover avenues for
personal expression and artistry.

Strand Four: Music - May 3, 10, 17, 24, 2014 Proposal Deadline - Jan 15,
2014
Music is an integral part of cultural identity and can act as a tool for
inquiry-driven teaching and learning. We are seeking musicians,
historians, and sound artists who can design workshops that provide
participants with techniques to build music-infused curricula related to
language arts, math, science, and history.
