The Marketing/Public Relations Manager for LBO is accountable for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all marketing and communication activities, including print and electronic media communication. The individual in this exempt position, functions as a member of the company's management team and reports directly to the Artistic/General Director (A/GD). Direct reports include Box Office Manager and Marketing/Public Relations Associate(s).
The ideal candidate is a creative and passionate marketing professional who will capitalize on and enhance the LBO brand as one of the most innovative opera companies in the country. H/she must embrace an "outside-the-box", edgy, non-traditional approach to opera production and marketing. H/she is enthusiastic, resourceful, and will be vigorous in creating and implementing LBO marketing programs and events. The candidate must be able to work collaboratively as part of a small, young team.
Primary Responsibilities
Maximizing earned income revenue by developing and executing strategic and comprehensive annual and multi-year marketing and public relations campaigns
Managing major growth in audience size among subscribers and single ticket holders
Managing the effective growth and evolution of the LBO brand both locally and nationally
Developing community relation opportunities to further advance LBO's mission and contribute to LBO's public image
Developing and supervising activities related to all press relations including creation and distribution of press releases and materials.
Fostering productive relationships with members of local, regional, and national media, emphasizing those that cover the arts and opera
Securing reviewing press coverage from local, regional, and national sources as well as previewing and listings in all forms of media
Coordinating all promotional events and activities, press conferences, and audience development
Additional Responsibilities Include:
Coordinating and contributing to the design, written copy, and distribution of all marketing material, ensuring integration and consistent use of LBO's overall brand strategy
Creating, implementing, and evaluating direct mail, e-marketing, social media, and telemarketing campaigns including special initiatives
Supervising Box Office activities, including ticket pricing, seating, and customer service
Maintaining departmental revenue and expense budgets, cash flow forecasts, and calendar of activities
Assuming editorial responsibilities, in collaboration with the Artistic/General Director, of LBO's website
Assisting Development Department in securing corporate sponsorship opportunities
Participating in the planning and execution of community engagement and audience development events
Directing the creation, editorial content, and gathering of materials, in collaboration with the Artistic/General Director and other departments, for season program books; managing company-wide proofing process
Coordinating all company photography, both production and social
Providing clear, accurate verbal and/or written reports to LBO's Board of Directors, A/GD and staff
Assisting in the hiring of staff and marketing intern/student workers
Responsibilities in marketing and public relations areas may include other related duties as requested or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proven record of success in creation and implementation of both large and small scale revenue-generating campaigns for theater and/or arts sector
Expertise in using current marketing/public-relations practices as well as emerging social media marketing principles and practices
Excellent organizational, copywriting, communication, and
interpersonal skills
Proven experience in media communications, media planning and buying, direct and email initiatives, and digital marketing
Demonstrated strength in team leadership and resource management
Prior experience with ticketing software as well as an understanding of ticketing best-practices
Strong computer skills
Ability to prepare and write promotional materials
Ability to plan and execute marketing for education programs
Ability to establish and maintain effective and productive
relationships with members of local, regional, and national press sources
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Senior Team, other department personnel, and outside vendors and community leaders
Qualifications
BA required
3+ years Marketing/Public Relations experience, preferably in a management position with heavy print media experience
Special Requirements
Ability to work limited nights and weekends during productions and special events
Ability to work during fundraising events, and/or other events as requested by Artistic/General Director
Ability to lift or move boxes weighing up to 25 pounds
