About Community Arts Resources (CARS) and CicLAvia

With 25 years of experience, Community Arts Resources (CARS) creates opportunities to engage with culture and community, while developing new models for the design and activation of public space. The firm's impressive repertoire of work has garnered CARS a significant reputation in the fields of urban and cultural planning, event production, and community outreach and marketing. Our work is built upon the principles of strategic collaboration, connectivity, exploration and celebration. http://www.carsla.net/

CicLAvia's mission is to encourage safe, vibrant public spaces, sustainable transportation, and public health through a program of car-free street events. Inspired by Ciclovía, the original, weekly street closure event in Bogotá, Colombia, CicLAvia consists of the temporary opening of Los Angeles streets to pedestrians and bicyclists so that they may enjoy a safe and pleasant recreation space, without the fear of car traffic. CicLAvia is a recurring free program that closes approximately 10 miles of city streets to car traffic, creating a web of temporary public space where participants are encouraged to make active use of their roadways. Since 10/10/10 (the pilot CicLAvia event), CicLAvia has taken place four additional times - each time with successively larger audiences and continued widespread community and political support. http://www.ciclavia.org/

As the contracted staff for the CicLAvia organization, Community Arts Resources (CARS) oversees the day-to-day operations of the organization, including public interface, marketing and pr, program planning and production, fundraising, outreach and administration. In addition, CARS builds and maintains strategic relationships with critical government contacts and other high-priority stakeholders. Working closely with the CicLAvia Board of Directors, CARS implements the strategic direction of the organization, while producing each individual CicLAvia event throughout the year.
