Japanese American National Museum Job Posting Events Assistant Part-Time/Non-Exempt
An affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution and AAM accredited, the
Japanese American National Museum (www.janm.org) is recognized as one of
the nation’s premier cultural museums. In 2010 the Japanese American
National Museum received America’s highest honor for museums, the federal
IMLS National Medal. The National Museum is located adjacent to the Metro
Gold Line in the Little Tokyo/Arts district in downtown Los Angeles, a
neighborhood that has experienced an exciting revitalization with diverse
new restaurants, shops, luxury apartments, and nightlife.
The mission of the Japanese American National Museum, home of the National
Center for the Preservation of Democracy, “is to promote understanding and
appreciation of America’s ethnic and cultural diversity by sharing the
Japanese American experience. Based in the historic Little Tokyo
neighborhood, it has a nation-wide focus and international base of support.
The Events Assistant is responsible for providing customer service to
potential clients and assists the Event and Marketing Coordinator with all
logistical aspects of the National Museum’s on-site facilities rental
program. Position interfaces with the potential clients and assists them in
booking and some planning of their event. Approximately 24 hours/week
preferably on Tuesdays, Thursdays and One Weekend day. Some flexibility on
scheduling based upon rental schedule.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, humanities or related field
preferred. At least one year of event planning or marketing & customer
service experience. Prior experience working with volunteers in a museum
or non-profit setting beneficial. Ability to work well under pressure to
meet deadlines. Excellent organizational skills with Strong proofreading
skills and ability to prepare contracts for clients. Professional phone
manner is essential. Ability to work in a fast paced team-environment, be a
self-starter. Demonstrate commitment and flexibility at all times in order
to ensure high quality service. Familiarity with Little Tokyo Community
desired and must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Experience with MS Office and familiarity with VISTA software and gmail
