Managing Director for Stagebridge/Los Angeles

Stagebridge/Los Angeles seeks a talented and highly motivated Managing Director to develop and run the year old theatre company. The company is the first branch of Stagebridge, based in Oakland, the nation's oldest and most prestigious theatre company of older adults, celebrating its 35th season. This is an exciting opportunity to develop the premiere theatre for older adults in Los Angeles. This person will work closely with the Artistic Director, Bruce Bierman, who has worked extensively with Stagebridge in Oakland. Overall, the MD will be responsible for all aspects of finance, marketing, development, planning, general administration and human resources. Specifically, the MD will raise funds; create an annual budget; actively cultivate relationships with individual donors, corporate and community organizations; hire and manage staff; oversee the company's public image; supervise the Performing Arts Training Institute (with AD) and outreach programs; represent Stagebridge at public functions; create an advisory board and report directly to Stagebridge Oakland.

Initially, the salary for the MD will be based on funds that he/she raises and any current pending grants that are received.

Performing Arts Classes have begun at the LGBT center in Hollywood and in the fall at the University of Judaism. Each class series culminates in showcase performances for friends and public audiences. Gradually, classes will be expanded to other areas and outreach will begin to bring performances and workshops to senior facilities and schools. Eventually, performances of original work, adapted plays and musicals, and solo storytelling will be presented in area theatres for public audiences.

Since 1978, Stagebridge has made the performing arts an opportunity for older adults and used the arts to bridge the generations. Stagebridge offers 50 classes a year to over 200 older adult students taught by the Bay Area's finest artists, provides certificates for training in acting and storytelling, and reaches over 30,000 people annually with performances and workshops. Stagebridge is nationally recognized as a leader in creative, healthful aging. It is the 2009 winner of the American Society on Aging/MetLife MindAlert Award and designated "an essential public good" by Theatre Bay Area. The company performs and presents at many national conferences and has appeared on NPR, ABC TV and in many national publications.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of 2-3 years experience in theatre management
• Knowledge of Los Angeles theatre and theatre training
• Successful fundraising experience
• Highly organized
• Excellent communication skills
• Experience and confidence as a public speaker
• Strong people skills
• Team builder, able to motivate people
