DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE – PART-TIME CONSULTANT

Founded in 1957, the Vincent Price Art Museum (VPAM) is located on the publicly funded community college campus of East Los Angeles College (ELAC) in Monterey Park, four miles east of downtown Los Angeles. VPAM is part of a brand new Performing and Fine Arts Center on campus and is located in a four-story, 40,000 square-foot state-of-the-art facility with lecture hall, three floors of gallery spaces for display of permanent collection and temporary exhibitions, and a vault for the VPAM collection.
As the first institutional art museum in East Los Angeles, VPAM serves as a unique educational resource for the diverse audiences of the college and the surrounding community through the exhibition, interpretation, collection, and preservation of works in all media of the visual arts and relevant public programming. VPAM also offers students a hands-on work experience in all aspect of the museum's activities and programming.
The VPAM Foundation, an independent 501(c)(3), supports, alongside the college, the work of the museum, its staff and students by raising funds from its members, individuals, corporations, businesses, foundations and government sources, and the community.
The DUTIES OF THE DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE include, but are not limited to:
Foundation/Government Grants: Research grant opportunities for sources that match existing and anticipated programming, chart and monitor deadlines. Draft and edit application materials. Work collaboratively with the museum director, VPAM foundation board and ELAC foundation on program/project development and grant budgets and proposals. Track and monitor proposals. Facilitate execution of agreements and assembly of report information.
¬Corporate/Business Giving/Sponsorship: Work with the VPAM foundation board, museum director and ELAC foundation to target corporations for support of individual exhibitions, museum events or programs. Research, solicit, and develop personal contacts with interested businesses and corporations, especially those located in the community.
Individual Giving: Work closely with the VPAM foundation board to identify individual donors. Prepare solicitation letters and work with board members on follow-up. Develop individual giving by museum visitors and community supporters.
Fundraising Events/Projects: Participate in a limited number of special events (film screenings, performances, lectures, tours) sponsored by the VPAM Foundation board. Assist with prioritizing, planning, coordination, marketing and set-up of these events and projects.
Database: Establish and maintain database (FileMaker Pro or PatronMail) for identification and tracking of all donors.
Fundraising Plan: Participate in the development of a multi-year fundraising plan with target dates, priorities and goals.
Board Relations: Attend VPAM foundation board meetings and communicate regularly with the board's fundraising committee.

The QUALIFICIATIONS OF THE DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE are:
• Demonstrated ability to write clearly and communicate concisely
• Bachelor's degree (preferred)
• Demonstrated experience in development or related work
• Understanding of development practices and methods
• Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work independently, accomplish tasks and achieve targeted goals
• Strong desire and motivation to work with this museum and its community
• Candidates must have a laptop and basic home office set-up
Compensation: The Development Associate will work for the foundation under a negotiated contract with monthly or hourly billing, plus reimbursables. Benefits cannot be provided. Consultant may work at home, but will need to attend regular meetings at the museum and access museum records and staff. We anticipate the need for 20 hours of work per week. This negotiation contract cannot exceed $25,000.
