Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA) provides underserved youth with exceptional programs in academics, arts and athletics within a nurturing environment, empowering them to develop their potential, pursue their education and strengthen their communities.
Youth Orchestra LA (YOLA) is the Los Angeles Philharmonic's initiative, supported by a network of stakeholders, to provide access to exceptional instrumental and orchestral education in order to promote youth development. Central to YOLA is the LA Phil's plan to build, with community partners, youth orchestras in underserved communities throughout Los Angeles.
Position Summary:
The YOLA at HOLA & Music Coordinator will be responsible for supporting YOLA at HOLA
and Music programming, activities and performances. He or she will support the YOLA at
HOLA and Music Director, YOLA at HOLA faculty, HOLA Music faculty and the HOLA
community and philosophy.
Essential Functions:
The YOLA at HOLA and Music Coordinator, under the supervision of the YOLA at HOLA and
Music Director, provides logistical support for programming, meetings, concerts and events,
often working with multiple organizations, staff, and volunteers. The coordinator will be
expected to develop strong and supportive relationships with the music faculty, students and
parents. Additional duties involve maintaining student enrollment information, tracking
instrument inventory and repair needs, maintaining the HOLA music library and assisting with
ensemble and classroom set up.
Responsibilities:
* Supporting teachers, students and parents during classes, rehearsals and concerts
* Assisting in tracking and updating student enrollment information, attendance and
instrument assignments
* Daily operations, such as ensemble and classroom set up and break down
* Supporting program documentation and archives
* Creating a system to organize and catalog repertoire
* Assisting with communications to parents and in-school teachers
* Standing in for the YOLA at HOLA and Music Director during programming in his/her
absence
* Substitute teaching or aiding teachers in the case of a teacher absence
* Other projects and duties as assigned, which could include but are not limited to
supporting HOLA-wide initiatives and related communications
Qualifications:
* College education or equivalent experience
* Strong commitment to El Sistema's philosophy of social change through music
* Strong computer and organizational skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word
* Music software knowledge a plus
* Detail oriented
* Positive attitude, flexible mindset
* Ability to work weekends and evenings as needed
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a
wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
* Interest and ability to be a motivational mentor and role model for students, parents, and
peers as an artist, teacher and citizen
* Bilingual in Spanish and English or Korean and English a plus
