Overview:
ICEF Public Schools is a nonprofit charter school management organization serving communities in the South Los Angeles area. We operate 15 high-quality, tuition-free, public charter elementary, middle and high schools. Our goal is to develop and manage charter schools that prepare minority students to attend and compete academically at the top colleges and universities in the nation.
Our mission is to transform South Los Angeles into a stable, economically vibrant community by providing first- rate educational opportunities and by annually graduating 2,000 high school students.

ICEF Public Schools Visual and Performing Arts Mission Statement:
The mission of the Visual and Media Arts Department is to teach students to be culturally aware, individual, critical-thinkers and creative problem-solvers through art so that they may compete in the top art colleges.

Our Story:
Since the inception of ICEF Public School in 1996, the Visual and Performing Arts Department has been an integral part of the school curriculum. Beyond academic success, ICEF Public School provides a well-rounded education that includes arts and sports as part of the core curriculum. The Visual and Performing Arts Department believes in promoting expression through the arts, understanding the role of the arts in contemporary society, and utilizing the arts as an education pathway to college and life success for our students.
Our curriculum is standards aligned, sequential, and skills based covering aspects of theory, history, and practice.

High School Visual Art Instructor Responsibilities:

Courses of instruction: Introduction to Art, Drawing and Painting I and II

Teach students grades 9-12: Applicant will be able to provide traditional art instruction to high school students, planning to meet the needs of the entire group as well as individual children. Candidate should have demonstrated skills and knowledge in a broad range of traditional art mediums including graphite, watercolor, acrylic, ink, charcoal, pastels, ceramics, and clay. Digital skillets such as Photoshop and Illustrator a plus.

This work will take place in assigned art rooms and in other designated areas. Demonstrate on a daily basis a genuine care about students and a sincere belief that each student's individual talents can be developed. Outside of the regular in class days, it is highly desirable that the instructor facilitates opportunities for students to showcase their artwork and participate in contests, competitions, scholarship opportunities, regional arts programs, performances and other outside the class events. These often take place on the weekends or afterschool hours and require additional non-compensated time.

Curriculum Development: The teacher is responsible for implementing an established curriculum and at times developing curriculum in art based on students developmental capacities and needs. A commitment to diversity must be reflected in the curriculum developed for students. The teacher is also responsible for collaborating with classroom teachers to help integrate art with other areas of study. Assess student learning on a regular basis.

Work with Environment and Materials: The teacher is responsible for designing, organizing and maintaining the art room they have been assigned. Arts standards, lesson plans descriptions, and material related to the unit covered must be displayed. The teacher is responsible for hanging exhibits of student's artwork, throughout the campus including the classroom, halls, and office, and keeping these displays current and labeled.

Staff: An interest in his/her own professional growth is expected including participation in professional development opportunities either school provided or sought out independently. Each teacher meets in bi-monthly staff meetings and monthly Parent Information Meetings (PIM) after school. Each teacher must also make regular professional contact with the parents/guardians of students in his/her classroom, so as to inform them of relevant matters regarding their child's student achievement that can include parent/teacher conferences. Qualifications:
* Education: B.A. or BFA in the Arts or Arts Education from an accredited college or university
* Must possess a current California teaching credential or be enrolled in a credentialing/internship program at a
college/university
* Master's degree strongly preferred
*Studio or arts industry experience a plus
*Demonstrated ability to successfully design, teach, and maintain curriculum, syllabi, and lesson plans
* Minimum 2 years teaching experience
*Demonstrated artmaking ability, experience working with a range of traditional materials and digital mediums
* Ability to work collaboratively and an interest in an interdisciplinary approach to education
*Solid knowledge of subject matter, including California State Standards and subject-specific frameworks and
assessments
*Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative student data
*Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
*Must be computer literate (MS Office)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
-Fosters a safe and nurturing learning environment
-Continuously builds professional knowledge
-Organizes classroom systems/procedures and manages student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged in learning
-Establishes an environment where students are excited about learning and preparing for college
-Develops and maintains lesson plans according to the California state standards
-Prepares lesson plans for substitutes
-Builds strong relationships with students and parents
-Communicates with parents/guardians on a weekly basis
-Identifies student's areas for improvement and is able to work with the student and family and internal resources to suggest options for improvement
-Provides continual assessment of student progress, maintain student records and portfolios, and complete assigned paperwork in provided timeframes.
-Conducts both student and teacher lead parent conferences
-Collaborates with the Resource Specialist to meet the needs of all students
-Attends and participates staff meetings, Parent/Teacher meetings, and other school-based meetings and
activities
-Performs assigned duties
-Attends and implements professional development training throughout and beyond the school year
-Demonstrates support and knowledge of school's goals and mission
-Is detail oriented when tracking students' grades, attendance, and other student data
-Works with the Principal, Assistant Principal, and the Director of Visual and Performing Arts department to ensure teaching methods are directed towards meeting and surpassing the standards
-Attends and participates in school-based meetings and activities -Special assignments as assigned throughout the year

Campus: View Park Prep High School School hours: 7:30 am-4 pm

-Salary is based on experience and education (comparable/exceeds LAUSD)
