Request for Qualifications: Civic Art Project Manager

Background
The Los Angeles County Arts Commission's Civic Art Program is seeking to
establish a pre-qualified list of civic art project managers. The Civic Art
Program manages a shifting workload of capital projects and may hire one or more
civic art project managers to facilitate and manage civic art projects on a
rotating basis.

The Civic Art Program provides leadership in the development of high quality
civic spaces by integrating the work of artists into the planning, design and
construction of Los Angeles County infrastructure and facilities. The Civic Art
Program encourages innovative approaches to civic art and provides access to
artistic experiences of the highest caliber to residents and visitors of Los
Angeles County.

There are over 2,800 arts organizations and 150,000 working artists in the
County of Los Angeles, creating the largest concentration of arts activity in
the United States. The Los Angeles County Arts Commission provides leadership in
cultural services of all disciplines for the largest county in the United
States, encompassing 88 municipalities. In addition to overseeing the County's
Civic Art Program, the Arts Commission provides leadership and staffing to
support the regional blueprint for arts education, Arts for All; administers a
grants program that funds more than 300 nonprofit arts organizations annually;
programs the John Anson Ford Theatres; and supports the Los Angeles County
Cultural Calendar on ExperienceLA.com. The Arts Commission also produces free
community programs, including the L.A. Holiday Celebration broadcast nationally,
and a year-round music program that funds more than 40 free concerts each year
in public sites.

Scope of Work
Manage civic art projects from inception through completion and final close-out
under the direction of Greg Esser, Director of Civic Art. Tasks include but are
not limited to the following:

Prepare RFQs; assemble project coordination committees; facilitate artist
selection process and design development; assure artwork inclusion in
construction documents; review and approve construction documents and
specifications; coordinate art conservator reviews; obtain necessary permits and
approvals; negotiate and monitor artists' contracts, including development of
detailed scopes of work and amendments; facilitate communication between artist
and County departments, architectural firms, community members and elected
officials; monitor fabrication progress; coordinate installation; maintain
accurate schedules in accordance with Department of Public Works design and
construction schedules (when applicable); make presentations to community groups
and County departments about civic art; prepare status reports; generate text
for Web site and printed project fact sheets and press releases; and coordinate
artwork dedication events and other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college with a concentration in public art,
architecture, urban planning or a related field. Previous experience in public
art project management is desired.

Compensation
Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
