Nonprofits Anticipate Challenging Year. America's nonprofits expect 2010 to
be as difficult if not more difficult than 2009, reports survey from the
Nonprofit Finance Fund (

According to the 2010 State of the Nonprofit Sector, 18% of more than 1,300
nonprofit leaders surveyed expect their organizations to end 2010 in the
black; in 2009, 35% of organizations ended the year with an operating
surplus. 61% of organizations surveyed have less than three months of cash
available, and 12% have no cash on hand. 52% collaborated with other
organizations to provide programs, 43% added to or expanded their programs,
18% expanded their geographic service area, and 60% have become more engaged
with their board.
