About Pacific Serenades: Pacific Serenades generates new chamber music by commissioning works and presenting them alongside standard repertoire in intimate concert settings, emphasizing Southern California musicians, so that listeners, performers, and composers may experience chamber music as part of a living tradition in the settings for which it is intended. Now in its 24th full concert season, Pacific Serenades is among the most active and well-respected chamber music organizations on the West Coast. Every year, we commission and premiere four new compositions; as of this season, we will have commissioned and premiered 98 works by 54 composers. Many of these works have gone on to performances and recordings by other ensembles, both here and abroad. National venues for our performances have included Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, San Francisco's Old First Church, and the J. Paul Getty Museum. Pacific Serenades' juxtaposition of traditional masterworks with commissioned works has attracted the attention of the broader cultural community. Our first recording, The Hall of Mirrors, won the prestigious Chamber Music America/WQXR Records Award in 2001. In 2003 and 2005 we were recognized by ASCAP/Chamber Music America for Adventurous Programming of Contemporary Music. Our most recent recording, "Border Crossings," highlights cross-cultural influences in compositions by both Latin American and Anglo-American composers.
