Call for Artists: Night Dive at the Aquarium of the Pacific

Deadline: Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 6:00 p.m.

Eligibility: The competition is open to all emerging artists working in Southern California. All forms of TWO-DIMENSIONAL painting, drawing, photography, graphics, printmaking, digital and installation art are eligible. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older to apply.

Call for Art! The Aquarium of the Pacific is accepting images via JPEG format to be juried for its upcoming "Night Dive" event.

"Night Dive," held the evening of Jan. 29, 2010, will be a chance for adults 18 and up to explore the Aquarium after dark and join us for an exclusive evening celebrating local music, art and culture. The theme for Night Dive's exhibition is: "art/ acoustics/ the ocean." All entries should relate to the theme.

Artists selected for this event may choose to sell their work onsite; please be advised that the Aquarium will charge commission.

Jury: This is a juried exhibition. All submissions will be juried by a panel of Aquarium staff and members of the Long Beach arts community with a broad range of expertise.

Media: Open only to 2-D media, but we are by no means limited to traditional media. Drawings, printmaking, digital/new media, photography, painting, installation, etc., are all possibly valid. Selected pieces must be ready to display on easel. Please note there will be no access to additional lighting.

Original artwork in any 2-D medium within the exhibit theme will be accepted for review; however we currently cannot support video or sound-based media.

Submission Guidelines: In an effort to conserve resources, the Aquarium accepts only digital images for consideration (see details below). On the online form, you will be prompted to enter your contact information as well as the title and description for each piece. In your description, please be sure to include the medium and the dimensions.

Submission images must meet the following specifications:
File names are the artist's last name followed by the entry number (i.e. Jones1.jpg).

Image files should be in HIGH QUALITY JPEG format, images should be no smaller than 1000 pixels in any direction and 72dpi. Images must be oriented properly (i.e. top of image is top of artwork).

Notification: Artists will be notified of acceptance or non-acceptance by email no later than January 18, 2010. You will be notified which piece(s) will be exhibited and receive more details on the Night Dive event.
