We are amid a global tech emergency; the act of discovery and creation by artists is more necessary than ever. In this approximately one-year fellowship cycle, we call on artists to bring their innate mental, spiritual, and physical aspects of what it means to be human into play with technology to affirm humanity’s role as creators, not spectators, of our collective techno-future.

Vleeshal Center for Contemporary Art presents experimental contemporary art. With our program, we want to surprise and encourage reflection amongst the widest possible audience—local and international. At Vleeshal, promising artists can broaden and deepen their practice by developing new works, in dialogue with the specific context in which they are shown. Under the current director Roos Gortzak, artists such as Cally Spooner, Ola Vasiljeva, Simone Forti, Andrea Éva Györi, Matthew Lutz-Kinoy and Paul Maheke took on this challenge.

The QM-Jerome Foundation Fellowship for Emerging Artists will grant two visual artists 20,000 USD each, individual studio space, professional development consultations, and close mentorship from QM staff members working toward the artists’ projects. Fellows will have individual studio space from January 2024 through January 2025, as well as a solo-exhibition in 2025.

The Museum of Contemporary Art MAC/CCB in Lisbon, Portugal, will open its doors on October 28 with the presentation of the collections in deposit—the Berardo Collection, the Ellipse Collection, and the Teixeira de Freitas Collection, as well as a solo exhibition by the Belgian artist Berlinde de Bruyckere.

It is a very important moment of affirmation of the multiple valences of the Centro Cultural de Belém, allowing the dialogue between the visual arts, architecture, and performing arts.
